Once, a little mouse made its way up to the balcony, and my parents killed it with a mousetrap. I felt very sorry for it, so I asked Dad if we could bury it—right under the big willow tree across from the stairwell. A few days later, when I went to visit the little mouse, its grave had been dug up and I could see its skeleton. I strongly suspected that the curious neighbor kids had dug it up; they might have seen us doing something at the base of the tree from the balcony. They could have at least buried it again.
