As children, we often got hungry during our long games outside. The fruit trees and gardens around our housing estate came to our rescue. Strawberries growing behind low fences, raspberry bushes reaching through the wire fences of our neighbours’ gardens, fruit trees – we simply couldn’t resist them. Any fruit that hung within reach or was close enough to grab was fair game, and we would help ourselves.
