In the past, children used to play outside on the streets and in the yards all day long, without adult supervision. The result of this was that we had to rely on ourselves. Many times, we got caught in storms far from home. In such cases, we either waited the storm to calm down in one of the stairwells or ran back home, which often didn't end without getting soaked and we would face the wrath of our parents. It was wiser to find shelter somewhere.
